Things to do on a Short Stay in Newark

Where can I go in Newark right now?

Due to the pandemic sightseeing has become a major challenge with our health and safety being a prime concern for everyone. Many venues have opened but do not offer anywhere near a full experience as they have done in the past. Those that are open rightfully insist you wear a face covering, observe social distancing rules and use anti-bacterial wipes and gels on a regular basis.

Here is a list of key sights in Newark and how they are affected:

Newark Showground

We featured this venue in our last post. The site is open, with Nightflix still running and this has now been extended until the 22nd November. Lots going on with the famous Antique Fair returning on the 4th & 5th December. Please click the link for full details.

Newark Air Museum

This is open but some of the attractions, such as sitting in a cockpit, are not available. It is still a great day out with plenty to see. For full details click on the link.

Newark Castle

Some of the events are cancelled and the internal parts of the structure are closed. The gardens are fabulous and there is plenty of colour in the autumn. Please click the link for full details:

National Civil War Centre

Now re-opened from Wednesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 3pm. The top 2 floor galleries are temporarily closed and the interactives are also closed for now. They have introduced some great new content and devised a new trail which can be downloaded from the site. Please click the link for full details:

Newark Market

Back to business as usual here which is great news, closed as usual on Sundays and Tuesdays and the noise of the stall holders is somewhat muffled by the masks but every cloud and all that!!

Sundown Adventureland Theme Park

Fully open until the 1st November and then the park is closed and re-opening again on the 21st November for the run up to Christmas.

Angling

Always open which is great news, if you can tolerate the weather then you are more than welcome to book a slot and enjoy the crisp Newark air while trying to outwit our scaly friends. We featured the Newark and District Piscatorial Society recently so they are always worth a shout.

The Newark Treasure Trail

Great fun for the whole family on the Newark self-guided treasure hunt themed Treasure Trail. Very safe as it is entirely outside and keeps the kids on their toes looking for the clues. Please click the link for full details.
