Let’s have a little wander round Newark with Gimbal Walk. He likes the area as he has done a couple of these before. Sadly, the weather wasn’t ever so kind to him, but you get a real feel of the quality of the town centre with the wide variety of shops, places to visit and fabulous open places to explore and enjoy.
He starts off in Carter Gate and heads toward the Market Place via Bridge Street and takes in the fabulous St Mary Magdalene Church with its awesome spire. He highlights the fabulous buildings such as the Queens Head pub and the Old Bakery behind. Off then for a quick tour of the Market Place passing the imposing Georgian Town Hall building that dominates the area and heads down by the Old White Hart Inn and through The Arcade.
He then heads off to the Castle giving a fascinating history lesson on the way about the old buildings he passes. He provides great advertising for some of the local pubs and businesses on his route, always particularly keen to highlight ancient pubs like the Prince Rupert and fabulous old buildings like the Corn Exchange. Into the Newark Castle Gardens and to enjoy the vista of the Castle grounds then across the bridge over the River Trent to Riverside Park and a walk alongside the river with the spectacular Castle walls on the opposite bank. You get a real feel for how peaceful this area is, well worth a visit.
