Check out these great things to do in the Newark area this Christmas

Check out some of the many things to do in the Newark area in the run up to Christmas. A real mixture of activities for young and old, and in between!

Newark town centre – has is Christmas lights turned on this weekend, 26th November. A spectacular event as always with festive fun activities, music performers, great food and fireworks. All taking place in the magnificent Georgian market place. Also a great opportunity to check put the plethora of independent shops and cafes in the town.

Newark Market – is a must visit, not only for the switch on where it hosts well over 100 stalls, but in the build up to the big day it is a great place to buy great gifts and seasonal bites, a shoppers heaven if ever there was one. December 9th is the big day for the unique Christmas Market.

Steampunk Christmas Market – this popular Sunday tradition is back with the torchlit procession through Kirk Gate and Church Walk in fabulous Dickensian outfits. Check out the street entertainers and the many stalls packed with Steampunk paraphernalia. All this and live music and great street food too.

Southwell Music Festival – The spectacular Minster State Chamber hosts this wonderful Christmas event giving everyone the chance to blast out their favourite seasonal songs. The sight of the Minster itself is worth the trip.

Winterfest at Thoresby Park – a variety of craft and gift stalls in the fabulous Courtyard, Riding Hall and Gallery. Santa’s Reindeer are making a guest appearance between 10am and 2pm but hurry up it is the last opportunity this weekend.

Sundown Adventureland – always a must to take the kids at Christmas. Hop on a sleigh and travel through the enchanted forest to meet Mr & Mrs Claus and their elves. Lots of live entertainment to keep the kids occupied and lots to see and do as always.

Belton House – the picture had me sold but apart from this amazing display they have great independent street food on offer, the fabulous grounds and light trail to enjoy a romantic walk, plus the usual Christmas fayre  you expect from this prestigious event.

Winter Wonderland – this fantastic event returns to Nottingham with ice skating on offer, the famous ice bar, the Sky Skate Ice path and a magnificent selection of seasonal stalls offering food from all over the world, festive gifts and the fabulous Ferris wheel if heights are your thing. Running from the 7th November to the 31st December it a must see.
